The Goodbye Cancer Garden
Speaking about cancer can be both confusing and terrifying,  so we rounded up some "must have" books for any age and any situation.  These books can be found at Chapters Indigo, or on Amazon.

Parent with young children:
  • “Cancer Hates Kisses” by Jessica Reid Sliwerski – written by a breast cancer survivor who had young kids at home. Relatable for all cancers.
  •  “Goodbye Cancer Garden” by Janna Matthies – my favorite book for kids.  A family plants a vegetable garden to help their kids keep track of when mommy finishes treatment.  This book really resonated with me – the timing was perfect and exactly in line with my own treatment calendar.
  • “My Dad Has Cancer!!!” by Lauren Faye Uribe.  The story of a 9 year old girl who’s dad has cancer.  Fabulous book with a great child-friendly perspective.
Parent with teens:
  • “My parent has cancer and it really sucks – real life advice from real life teens” by Maya Silver and Marc Silver. A compilation of stories and advice from other teens.  There is even a section for parents!
Child battling cancer:
  • “Chemo to the rescue” by Mary Brent and Caitlin Knutsson – This book is written by a childhood cancer survivor and is an honest but relatable story.  It talks about hair loss, important doctors’ visits, etc.  Great book for child diagnosed with leukemia or their friends and siblings.

Are you someone who has been touched by cancer, or even someone looking for an empowering, motivating, and inspiring story?  Read SOUL SHAKER: A Whirlwind Awakening, by Catherine Kontos.  Catherine was struggling in an unhappy marriage and personal cross-roads when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Her story is one that starts with great pain, loneliness, and suffering but concludes with health, strength, and power.  This book is a "must" on your reading list.

Do you have any books that has helped you or your family?  Let us know!
